Help - Exact Searching (EXACT)

To search for an exact term, you can precede the word or phrase with the EXACT operator in the search box. If you select a term from the Browse screen, the EXACT operator is pasted into the search form automatically by default.

This will search for all films called "Life" and will not find films such as "Back to Life" or "Life is a Circus."

Note: grouping search terms with brackets is not possible in AFI Catalog.
