The browse for Film title lists the full film title for each film contained in the site. This is useful if you want to see an alphabetical list of film titles. Character names are searchable only in the non-inverted form. In other words, a search for "Golightly, Holly" will not produce any results. CastThe Cast field will search for records containing particular cast member names. Example:
CrewThe Crew field searches for people involved in production roles, such as makeup, sound or color. Example:
Use the browse list to narrow your options to a particular crew role. The names are in their inverted and non-inverted form in the browse list. Note: this search also retrieves records where the name appears in the 'Note' field (so for example it will retrieve films that a director was meant to work on, or did work on but was not credited). For example, a search for Sergio Leone retrieves the film record for Ben Hur (1959) and in the Note field we see that 'Several modern sources state that future Italian Spaghetti Western director Sergio Leone worked on the film'. Please note that hit highlighting will not appear in the Note section in this search. Based onThis field will limit your search to the name of a book, play, poem or it's author that the film was based on. Example:
Release yearThe date range available is 1893-1970. Use the Release year field to limit your search to films released during a specific year or a range of years. Day and month are not searchable as search criteria in this field. The Year field can be searched in two ways. To search on a range of years, enter the relevant year values into the from and to boxes. Example:

Most films will be USA only. Some films have more than one country associated with them. SubjectThe Subject field searches on both Principal subjects and Additional subjects. Example:
Principal subjects includes major headings that outline the most important elements of the film, such as aspects of the main character, the main theme(s) of the film, and major geographical locations.
