Help - AFI's Top 10 films

The Top 10 films page displays the Top 10 films chosen annually by AFI. The film titles are linked to a full record of each film.

The AFI, like the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, bases the year's awards on films that have played for at least one week in New York or Los Angeles by 31 December of a given year. A film like Chicago, which opened prior to 31 Dec 2002, but was not released nationally until early 2003, is listed as a 2003 film. Therefore, several films on the Top 10 list of a given year may actually be listed in the Catalog database as being released the following year. Some films open at one cinema for 6 or 7 days before year's end to qualify for that year's Oscars.

Note: These films are not searchable in the main database, and are not e-mailable at this time.
